Exile214 – Marla’s Journey Through Time

Exil 214 Bildcollage 2014 mit zentraler Figur, Deutschland, Ukraine-Konflikt, Russland und internationale Krisen

Today is day 214 of my exile.
Exile 214.

Two thousand fourteen.

The year is marked by new tensions in Europe and a noticeable shift in security policy certainties. What long appeared to be a stable order is beginning to change, as political decisions are increasingly shaped by geopolitical developments.

In Germany, the economic situation remains stable, but foreign policy issues are moving more into focus. Events in Eastern Europe are once again drawing attention to security dependencies and historical entanglements. Differences between East and West are receding into the background, while the focus on Germany’s role within the European framework is intensifying.

The crisis in Ukraine develops into a central event of the year. Following political upheavals in Kyiv, a referendum takes place in Crimea and, from the Russian perspective, is followed by its incorporation into the Russian Federation. Armed clashes begin in eastern Ukraine, arising from differing interests, historical ties, and geopolitical tensions.

This year makes it clear how quickly political certainties can shift.
Exile 214.
A year in which perspectives harden and the order is renegotiated.

2014 brings new tensions to Europe. Ukraine at the center, Germany stable, the world in motion. Perspectives visibly collide.
