Today is day 215 of my exile.
Exile 215.
Two thousand fifteen.
The year is marked by rising tensions and simultaneous movements across borders. Global crises are increasingly having a direct impact on Europe, while political decisions are being made under the influence of new dynamics. Stability appears less self-evident and more dependent on external developments.
In Germany, the refugee movement moves to the center of attention. Many people are reaching Europe, with Germany becoming a central destination. In addition to humanitarian causes, there is also discussion about steering factors and incentives, including the impact of social welfare systems as a potential pull factor. At the same time, a new economic sector is emerging around reception, accommodation, and integration, which some describe as a distinct structure and which further shapes the debate.
Europe is facing a test. The question of shared responsibility meets differing interests and national priorities. Border controls, distribution issues, and political direction decisions show how complex coordination within the Union has become.
Internationally, conflicts remain defining. The war in Syria continues to drive people to flee, while other regions are also affected by instability. These developments arise from longer chains of causes in which political decisions, power interests, and regional dynamics intertwine.
This year makes clear how closely movement, politics, and interests are interconnected.
Exile 215.
A year in which flows emerge and, at the same time, new structures grow with them.
2015: Migration shapes Europe, with Germany in focus. Causes, incentives, and new structures are debated controversially.
