In the Federal Republic, economic growth, alignment with the West, and political continuity shape the situation, while the German question remains unresolved. In the GDR, the structure of the state solidifies, supported by Soviet backing and internal isolation.

Between the two German states, tensions gradually increase. Migration, economic disparities, and security interests intensify the situation, without being attributable solely to the decisions of a single actor. International alliances and strategic dependencies shape the room for maneuver on both sides.

Worldwide, nineteen sixty is a year of profound upheaval. In Africa, numerous new states emerge from the collapse of the colonial empires, driven by independence movements and global shifts in power. These processes do not unfold in isolation but are closely linked to economic interests and the East–West conflict.

Between the United States and the Soviet Union, the Cold War intensifies. Events such as diplomatic crises, arms dynamics, and ideological competition deepen mutual mistrust. Here, too, long-standing histories, security needs, and misjudgments interact.

Nineteen sixty reveals a world in motion, where stability and uncertainty coexist. Decisions emerge from complex causal chains rather than simple questions of blame. History remains the result of many forces acting at the same time.
Exile 160.

1960 is a year of consolidation and tension. Germany lives with division, the world with the Cold War.
