Cat Album #16 – Pelmeni, reflections, and cats that know exactly when you're leaving

Today is one of those days when the rhythm runs a little differently.

No barn appointment in the evening.
No computer until midnight.
Instead: an invitation.

The farmer and his wife invited me over for dinner.
And I tell you:
When this woman makes pelmeni, you can forget everything you’ve eaten before.

I’ve eaten a lot of pelmeni in my life.
In Russian restaurants.
Even earlier, back when I was still “at home.”
Homemade, of course.

But these here?

This is not cooking.
This is persuasion.

You could imagine bringing them along.

Minna and Adi would probably like to come.
At least Minna—out of curiosity.
Adi more out of principle.

But that won’t work.

They have an old, red tomcat there.
The kind who’s seen everything and doesn’t discuss anything anymore.

I tried it once.
A mistake.

Adi is not diplomatic.
Adi is big.
Adi moves toward conflict like a small, belligerent elephant.

Whether it was about territory or Minna, I still don’t know.
But one thing is clear:
The experiment is over.

So the two of them are staying here today.

And they’ve known it for a while.

Cats notice things like that.
They notice when you stay away longer.
When you move differently.
When you stop in front of the mirror.

That’s exactly where I’m standing right now.
In front of the mirror.
Making myself look a little nicer.
Not much—but deliberately.

It’s just before three.
I’m supposed to go over at five.
The samovar is being heated.
Dinner is at six.

Minna is sitting somewhere in the room, watching.
Not reproachful.
More observant.

Adi is lying down.
As always.
But with his eyes open.

They let me go.
But they store it away.

And now I already know:
When I come back later, everything will be checked closely.

Smell.
Mood.
Time.

But for now, I’m looking forward to it.

To warmth. To conversations. To pelmeni that don’t just fill you up, but tell you where you are.

I’ll check back in later.

Have a good day.
We’ll read each other. We’ll read each other.

To be continued. 🐾🖤

🐱 Cat stuff I can genuinely recommend (tested by Adi & Minna)

✅ 1) Cat scratching tree / climbing tree

Adi is heavy—so the thing has to be sturdy.
Look for: thick sisal posts, a wide base plate,, no wobbling..

➡️ Scratching tree (sturdy & large): (https://amzn.to/4sUbln1)

✅ 2) Cat food – preferably grain-free

Grain-free is often the better choice, since many cats react sensitively to fillers. And: it’s perfect for indoor cats that don’t “hunt outside on the side.”

➡️ Grain-free cat food: (https://amzn.to/4a8sPV7)

✅ 3) Litter box + litter

If it’s supposed to stay clean, you need two things:

  • a good litter box (preferably large)
  • clumping litterthat binds odors

➡️ Litter box (large & practical): (https://amzn.to/45rypQ1)
➡️ Clumping litter / odor control: (https://amzn.to/45prtTn)

💬 And you? When it’s –15 degrees outside—what’s your lifesaver: a blanket, tea, or a cat? 🖤

One response to “Katzenalbum #16 – Pelmeni, Spiegelbilder und Katzen, die genau wissen, wann man geht”

  1. How wonderful, I’m happy for you. These are moments when you can recharge with strength and good energy… joy is priceless and gives so much strength. Yes, cats notice everything—they have a seventh sense. 😍😀 Enjoy it, and enjoy the pelmeni 😀
